Katt Lowe - Biography
"My songs are like an open diary - honest, revealing,
sexual, searching, filled with passion, love and desire," says singer/songwriter/guitarist
Katt Lowe. "Like everyone else, I’m trying to find my place in the world
- trying to understand why we experience the lessons we do."
Lowe's heartfelt examination of life led to the creation
of the 13 straight-ahead rock/pop/alternative songs featured on her debut
CD, Katt Lowe and the Othersyde (Monkey
Moon Records and 404 Music Group). Cherie
Currie, lead singer of the 1970s female-fronted rock outfit The Runaways,
produced the disc.
Katt's personal connection with music has been a lifelong
affliction for this California native. "Music has been in my blood since
I was a child," she admits. "My parents would always play music by The
Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Elvis, Johnny Cash - while I would use wooden
spoons as microphones and drum sticks. Music is in my soul. It's something
I have to do."
In 1998, Lowe wanted to go where the action was and
relocated to Hollywood. She immediately started making the rounds at open
mic nights. By chance, the singer ran into former Runaways drummer Sandy
West, who introduced Lowe to Currie. Before long, the three musicians
became pals and started gigging around the Los Angeles area. Lowe's impressive
songwriting abilities inspired Currie to not only produce the Katt Lowe
and the Othersyde CD, but to also co-write two songs, play keyboards
and lend her familiar voice to the duet "Get Together Soon," as well as
many background vocal tracks. "Cherie is the cherry bomb!" exclaims Lowe.
"I loved The Runaways, as well as Joan Jett and Lita Ford - the other ladies
whose careers sprung from the band. It's great to work with Cherie because
she's someone I've admired for so long. She's an amazing human being. People
have no idea how humble and down to earth she really is."
"I've always wanted to produce a record, especially
for an artist like Katt," Currie says. "Her raw talent, voice and songwriting
ability intrigued me so much that I told her if she ever needed a producer
for her project, I would love to do it. Before I knew it, we were in the
studio."
In addition to The Runaways, Lowe was influenced by
such varied rock legends as Concrete Blonde, Suzi Quatro, The Ramones,
Cheap Trick, Jimi Hendrix, and The Rolling Stones. Some of these classic
sounds make their way into her songs and gritty, fervent vocal style.
But the final product is a rare mix of heart and talent
(not to mention pain and pleasure) that's distinctly Katt Lowe, infectious,
hooky, fun rock and roll ... with a pop twist.
