Bobi Jackson is a fascinating woman. Her multi-decade spanning career has taken her on a journey worthy of a best selling biography. A true pioneer, she was one of very few African American women playing Rock & Roll in the 60's and not only created history, but bounced against it and affected it in myriad ways.Bobi's career started in New York City as a teen, where she danced with the Katherine Dunham Ensemble and played upright bass with the New York Symphony Orchestra. After a move to the West Coast in the 60's, she had the opportunity to play alongside an impressive list of musical greats including Etta James, Jimi Hendrix. Neil Young, Joe Cocker, The Drifters, Donovan, and The Doors.
After a stint with a Billboard Magazine fave band "Fire & Ice" on Capitol Records, Bobi released a single with her all-female band "High Risk" which pre-dated the legendary Runaways by several years!
Since then, Bobi has scored numerous films including Warren Miller's first surf film and half a dozen others! Along with recording and performing, she also hosts her own weekly Saturday afternoon television program in Los Angeles called "Living Arts", which uniquely combines art, music, travel, history & nature.
Bobi has released two CDs on her own label Electric Love Productions, entitled "Alligator Woman", & "Phoenix By The Sea". "Alligator Woman" is entering its third pressing and contains an original blend of Blues, World Music and Rock & Roll. Described by U.K. Magazine Folk Roots as "Sweaty swamp blues, vicious voice, bakin' band...Rough, raw and totally explosive"! "Phoenix" is a collection of Bobi's "more serious" songs of love, and moves from instrumental to folk to psychedelic rock...like the artist herself, Bobi's music is simply too colorful to be defined by any one style or category.
